Dear Parent or Guardian:

We are presently in the process of starting our beginning band program for the 2020-21 school year. This is for any student who will be enrolled as a 6th grader next year at MMS.

1. Beginning Band does NOT interfere with any other sports or after school activity.

2. Amro music in Memphis comes one evening in August to rent instruments to the students. They have both new and used instruments to rent at reasonable monthly rates (rent to own). You are NOT obligated to rent from Amro… you may know someone who has one for sell. All I ask is that you let me look at it first and check the condition. Also, any student choosing to play a baritone or a tuba, the instrument is checked out to him or her from the school…..the only expense will be a mouthpiece and a book….(and any repair or damage to the horn during the school year)

3. The MMS Band participates in the Christmas parade each year. Also, they participate in the annual Solo Ensemble competition where each student performs a solo for a judge and receiving a rating of one to five with ones and twos receiving a blue or red medal. (I am very proud to say that all MMS students have received medals for the past 9 years.) We also try to take 1 or 2 educational trips yearly to Bethel University, The Dixie, and or UTM to learn “outside” the classroom.

I hope the above information helps you with some of the questions that you may have concerning the program. I am proud to say that our MMS program has approximately fifty five students enrolled . If you have more questions, PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me by email at Please contact me (via email) if your child would like to participate. Please leave students name, parent or guardian name, and their 1st and 2nd choice of instruments. (under normal circumstances, I would meet with them and show the different instruments and how they sound….so if they aren’t for sure, no problem). Please let me know by Monday, May 11th.
